The mountain is known for a rugged, above-treeline feel with steep upper-mountain options and a straightforward base setup. It’s a strong choice for confident skiers and riders who want a more stripped-down, terrain-driven day in Summit County.","description":"Arapahoe Basin is built around altitude, exposure, and a skier-first layout that has earned it the nickname “The Legend.” With a 10,780-foot base and a 13,050-foot summit, it has the highest base elevation of any ski resort in North America, and that elevation shapes everything about the experience. The mountain delivers 2,530 feet of vertical across 1,428 skiable acres and 147 trails, but the real story is the terrain mix: 73 black runs and 35 double blacks against 29 blues and 10 greens. That makes this one of the most advanced-leaning major ski areas in Colorado. The mountain is also known for high-alpine terrain such as Pallavicini and Montezuma Bowls, plus backcountry access for skiers looking beyond the marked trail network. Arapahoe Basin gets 350 inches of average snowfall and uses just 9% snowmaking coverage, mainly to support one of the earliest opening dates in North America rather than to build out a heavily manufactured winter product. That combination of altitude, aspect, and modest snowmaking footprint helps explain why its season often stretches unusually late. For a regional area, the access is excellent: about 1.3 hours from Denver and roughly 1.5 hours from DEN. The lift system is relatively lean at nine lifts, but that fits the mountain’s no-frills feel. Founded in 1946 in the Rocky Mountains, A-Basin remains a place people choose for challenging terrain, a long season, and a culture that still feels more committed to skiing than to resort gloss.  ","content_generated_at_utc":"2026-02-11T19:31:35.456Z"},"forecast":{"snow_10d_cm":8.260000000000002,"snow_24h_cm":0,"snow_past_24h_cm":0,"snow_past_7d_cm":1.75,"daily_snow_cm":[0,0,0.98,0.7,0.35,1.26,0.84,0.7,0.56,2.87],"daily_time":["2026-04-05","2026-04-06","2026-04-07","2026-04-08","2026-04-09","2026-04-10","2026-04-11","2026-04-12","2026-04-13","2026-04-14"],"past_daily_snow_cm":[0,0,0,0.63,0.49,0.63,0],"past_daily_time":["2026-03-29","2026-03-30","2026-03-31","2026-04-01","2026-04-02","2026-04-03","2026-04-04"],"last_updated":"2026-04-05T14:34:18.258Z"},"passes":[{"id":"ikon","name":"Ikon Pass"}],"nearby_resorts":[{"slug":"aspen-highlands","name":"Aspen Highlands","country":"United States"},{"slug":"aspen-mountain-co","name":"Aspen Mountain","country":"United States"},{"slug":"beaver-creek-resort-co","name":"Beaver Creek","country":"United States"},{"slug":"breckenridge-ski-resort-co","name":"Breckenridge","country":"United States"},{"slug":"buttermilk-mountain","name":"Buttermilk Mountain","country":"United States"}],"webcams":{"has_webcams":false},"is_gold":true,"generated_at_utc":"2026-04-05T15:10:46.222Z"}
